My easy 3-ingredient Blueberry Lemonade recipe is so yummy, I’m pretty sure purple is the new pink! This cheerfully bright sweet-tart sipper is filled to the brim with both citrusy and floral berry flavors and pairs well with all your cookout favorites—perfect for your next summer soirée.

It might’ve been “Brat Summer” last year, but I’m declaring this year “Lemonade Summer.” I mean, I’ve always been more Beyoncé than Charlie XCX, but beyond that, who can resist an ice cold glass of homemade lemonade—especially when it’s sweetened with a homemade blueberry syrup?!?
This purple-hued beauty is only my latest addition to my growing list of lemonade recipes; after all, spring and summer is prime fruit season. There’s peach lemonade, cherry lemonade, blackberry lemonade (or a DIY Starbucks blackberry sage lemonade refresher!), raspberry lemonade—I could seriously pull a Bubba and list dozens more, but you get the idea.
This blueberry lemonade is a stellar new member of Team Fruity, adding a hint of floral sweetness that’s not quite so potent as my lavender lemonade. It’s also the perfect drink for lazing by the pool, washing down a burger, or spiking with some vodka if it’s been one of those days. 😂 Ready to sip on some berry citrus magic? Let’s get to it!

What does it taste like?
Of all the many delicious berry varieties, blueberry is arguably the most demure. They are on the sweeter side, have almost no acidity, and have a quasi-flowery flavor profile that I find charming. When combined with the sunshine-bright pucker of fresh lemons in this easy lemonade recipe, all of those nuances really come to life! In short, blueberry lemonade is sweet without being saccharine, lightly perfumed without tasting like potpourri, and just the right amount of tart.
Why You Will Love This Homemade Blueberry Lemonade Recipe
- Quick & Easy – If you have your blueberry simple syrup ready, it’ll take just 5 minutes to make a batch. If not, add an extra 5 minutes of active time and an additional 10 minutes of steeping time. Either way, it’s a snap!
- Only 3 Ingredients – Blueberry syrup (which is made with blueberries, sugar, and water), lemons, and water are all you need to make a pitcher of blueberry pink lemonade. So, I guess it’s technically four ingredients if you count the water.
- Better Than Store-Bought – Why drop $5+ for a jug of Simply blueberry lemonade when you can make your own at home? Depending on where you live, it may be cheaper, but it’s also better-tasting, more natural (because we’re not adding any fake “natural flavors”), AND you get a pile of syrupy blueberries to put on toast, in oatmeal, or yogurt.

Ingredients
- Fresh Lemon Juice – Freshness is super important when it comes to lemon juice—the bottled kind simply can’t hold a candle to the real stuff!
- Blueberry Syrup – I like to make my own blueberry syrup, but you’re welcome to use store-bought if you like. Just note that syrups have differing levels of sweetness, so start slow when you add it to the mix.
- Water – If possible, start with filtered water for the best results.

Substitutions
- Fresh Lemon Juice – Feel free to use sweeter Meyer lemons if you like your lemonade a little less tart. You can also play with fresh lime juice for a fun twist!
- Blueberry Syrup – This is a great place for your creativity to shine, so have fun mixing and matching the fruity or floral coffee syrups of your choice.
- Water – Swap in sparkling mineral water, club soda, or seltzer for some bubbly goodness.
How To Make Blueberry Lemonade
This quick and easy drink recipe comes together in just a few simple steps:
Step 1: Roll Lemons on a work surface, using a firm hand to help extract as much juice as possible.
Step 2: Juice the lemons after rolling, making sure to strain out any seeds.
Step 3: Pour water into a tall pitcher.
Step 4: Add the strained lemon juice.
Step 5: Sweeten the lemonade with your blueberry syrup. Stir to combine.
Step 6: Serve over ice and garnish with fresh or frozen blueberries and/or lemon wheels or wedges. Enjoy!

Optional Variations & Dietary Adjustments
- Sugar-Free – For a zero-calorie, diabetic-friendly version, swap in sugar-free blueberry syrup made with your favorite cup-for-cup sugar replacement (e.g. monkfruit).
- Sparkling Blueberry Lemonade – Add some extra excitement to your glass by replacing the water with your favorite kind of bubbles—sparkling water, seltzer, or even dry sparkling white wine!
- Extra Flavors – Blueberries pair nicely with floral and herbal flavors. Try adding some lavender syrup to make blueberry lavender lemonade, or muddle some fresh herbs in your pitcher before mixing to make a blueberry basil lemonade or blueberry mint lemonade.
- Add Booze – Sometimes you need a blueberry lemonade cocktail in your life, so who am I to stop you? Try making blueberry vodka lemonade by adding a splash of your favorite plain or lemon/berry flavored vodka, or blitz up a blueberry lemonade margarita.
Serving Suggestions
While you need zero excuses or fancy accoutrements to slurp down a refreshing glass of lemon blueberry goodness, there are plenty of ways for you to level up your game:
- Get Snazzy – Serving brunch this weekend? Try serving this splendid sipper in a stemmed wine glass to make it feel more like a blueberry lemonade mocktail. For even more pizzazz, stir in some purple, gold, or silver luster dust to give it literal sparkle.
- Go For Garnishes – The speediest way to make a drink feel special is to add some fresh garnishes. Frozen blueberries can replace the ice, but fresh blueberries look pretty, too. Fresh lemon is always a nice touch—that way you can amp up the pucker-factor by squeezing in a little extra juice. The purple hue also looks great with some green—try adding a sprig of fresh mint or basil to make it garden party-ready.
- Perfect Pairings – Serve this lemon blueberry drink with other bright, fresh-tasting foods like my fresh strawberry waffles, healthy blueberry zucchini muffins or lemon zucchini muffins for breakfast. For lunch or dinner, it goes great with grilled chicken green goddess salad, or easy chicken al limone. For dessert, double down on the blueberry-lemon combo and serve it with blueberry lemon parfaits.

Recipe Success Tips
- Use fresh lemon juice! I can’t emphasize this enough. Bottled lemon juice has a bit of a bitter flavor on account of the extra lemon essential oils extracted from the rind.
- Freeze your lemons. It sounds crazy, but freezing fresh, whole lemons is a great way to keep “fresh lemons” in stock. As a bonus, they’re extra easy to juice after they defrost—no rolling necessary.
- Serve cold. Lemonade is one of those drinks that should be nice and icy for maximum refreshment. Consider freezing your glasses for 10-15 minutes before pouring it for a deliciously frosty effect.
Storage Directions
- Refrigeration – Fresh blueberry lemonade will keep well in the fridge for up to 3 days. (It’ll likely last beyond that, but the flavor might not be quite as yummy.) Note that you shouldn’t use sparkling water unless your pitcher is airtight, or you’ll lose the bubbles.
- Freezing – If you have extras that you can’t finish, freeze them into ice cubes for adding a fruity pop of flavor to all your favorite drinks. You can also make simple blueberry lemonade popsicles using a popsicle mold.

Fresh Blueberry Lemonade Nutrition
As you might expect, this sweet drink is packing a sugary punch—each serving has 141 calories, all of which come from the 36 grams of carbohydrates (all of which are from added sugar). While it’s certainly not a diet deal-breaker, it’s something to keep in mind. There’s also 2 milligrams of sodium, but that’s barely worth mentioning.
Remember that you can always reduce or eliminate the sugar content if you’re on a diet—just swap in sugar-free flavoring syrup. Alternatively, keep the sweetness level the same, but serve it as half blueberry lemonade mixed with half sparkling water or unsweet iced tea.
Despite the high sugar content, you are getting a nice boost of vitamin C, plus some antioxidants like anthocyanins with every sip thanks to the fresh fruit. While that doesn’t cancel out the sugar, it should give you a bit of comfort knowing that you’re also getting some good out of your treat. Enjoy in moderation and make sure to limit your added sugars throughout the day!
