    What Is Strawberry Vinaigrette?

Strawberry vinaigrette is an oil-based dressing made with fresh strawberries. It is fresh, fruity, sweet, tangy, and commonly used to dress everything from green salads to grain salads. It also can be used as a marinade or grilling glaze.

For the sake of common reference, I will use both terms interchangeably, though vinaigrettes are technically made with an oil and vinegar base, whereas salad dressings are made with mayonnaise or dairy. Both vinaigrettes and dressings can be used similarly to dress salads, as a dip for veggies, a marinade, or glaze for grilled meats!

    Ingredients

    • Strawberries – Ripe and fresh summer berries shine in this recipe for strawberry vinaigrette. Choose deep red berries and wash them well before hulling. Remove any blemishes and chop the berries roughly before adding them to the food processor or blender.
    • Avocado Oil – This neutral-flavored olive oil adds richness to the dressing while not overpowering the strawberries.
    • Apple Cider Vinegar – For a light tang that complements the sweet berries! You can use processed or raw vinegar.
    • Honey – A touch of sweetness balances the acidic vinegar and gives the berries a boost of natural sweetness. You will need 2 tablespoons.
    • Salt & Pepper – These pantry staples season the dressing, bringing it to life and adding a light, peppery finish. Use fine sea, kosher, or Himalayan salt and always crack the pepper fresh for the best results.

    Substitutions

    • Berries – Swap fresh raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, or mixed berries to take a different twist on this strawberry vinaigrette dressing.
    • Sweetener – Use maple syrup or agave instead of honey for a smoother sweetness. This also makes the dressing vegan!
    • Oil – For a peppery and bright finish, Substitute virgin or extra virgin olive oil, or canola oil for a milder dressing.
    • Vinegar – White wine vinegar or distilled white vinegar add tang without extra fruitiness, or substitute balsamic or red wine vinegar for a fuller, more robust flavored strawberry vinaigrette salad dressing.

    Instructions

This recipe is seriously simple and ready in a snap! Here’s how to make strawberry vinaigrette:

Step 1: Add all ingredients to a high-speed food processor or blender.

Step 2: Process or blend until smooth.

Step 3: Transfer to a mason jar or an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 7 days.

    Recipe Tips

    • Blend until smooth. Blitz or blend the strawberry mixture until smooth and spoonable, or for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. If you prefer a chunkier vinaigrette, blend the dressing as written and pour it into a container. Pulse 1/2 cup strawberries until finely chopped. Stir the chopped berries into the dressing and serve.
    • Season to taste. If needed, add an extra pinch or two of salt or a few extra cracks of pepper. To make the homemade strawberry vinaigrette less tart, blend in more honey. To enhance the tang or reduce the sweetness, add extra vinegar by the teaspoon.

    Serving Suggestions

For a delicious celebration of summer, enjoy this strawberry dressing drizzled over baby spinach salads topped with feta or goat cheese, chopped almonds or pecans, grilled chicken, and sliced strawberries. It’s also super tasty brushed on grilled chicken, shrimp, or turkey burgers, tossed with freshly cut fruit for a next-level fruit salad, and tossed with your favorite quinoa or pasta salad.

A small cup and spoonful of the strawberry dressing.

    Recipe Variations

    • Make it Sweeter – Add additional honey to taste if preferred or if your berries aren’t very sweet.
    • Enhance the Pepper: Blend in 1 teaspoon of smooth Dijon mustard for stronger peppery notes and light tang.
    • Strawberry Balsamic – Swapping the apple cider vinegar with balsamic vinegar makes the dressing bold and juicy.
    • Herbs – Stir in 1 tablespoon of fresh (or 1 teaspoon dried) chopped tarragon or basil before serving for an herbaceous finish!
    • Vegan – Enjoy this recipe plant-based style by using maple or agave syrup instead of the honey.
    • Sugar-Free – Substitute a scant 1 teaspoon of monk fruit sweetener for the honey. After blending, sample the dressing and add additional sweetener by the 1/8 teaspoon to taste.

    Storage Directions

Store the strawberry dressing in a Mason jar or an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. It does not freeze well.

    Nutritional Info

You can feel great about adding this homemade vinaigrette to your spring and summer recipe repertoire! Each quarter-cup serving size of dressing clocks in at 113 calories, most of which come from heart-healthy fats and whole foods-based carbohydrates.

The strawberries contribute modest carbohydrates but deliver big on Vitamin C and antioxidants. The avocado oil delivers a modest serving of 7 grams of fat, many of which are heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. Finally, the honey naturally sweetens the dressing, adding natural, unprocessed sweetness and carbohydrates, which are a great source of energy for the body.

This berry dressing is a nutrient-rich addition to your diet. However, if you’d like to cut the caloric count or fat content in half, reduce the serving size to 2 tablespoons. You can also reduce the carbohydrates by substituting monk fruit for the honey.
