My recipe for Lavender Lemonade is brightly citrusy and lightly floral — perfect for sipping on a warm, sunny day. Made with nothing more than fresh lemon juice, water, and a homemade lavender simple syrup, this refreshing glass of springtime sunshine is sure to bring a smile to your face.
Over on my other site, CoffeeCopycat, I’ve been mixing up a whole bunch of lavender loveliness thanks to Starbucks’ current spring lineup. And, while I’ve been loving the lavender lattes and lavender cream matchas, I wanted to make a caffeine-free lavender drink I can pair with dinners, share with the kids, or just slurp down after a hot day in the sun.
Lemonade seemed like the perfect solution. After all, summer is fast approaching, and is there anything cuter than a toddler selling delicious lemonade in front of her house? Or better than a cool glass of fresh lemonade on a scorching afternoon? Methinks not. 🍋
And while other lemonade stands might be content using powdered or concentrated drink mixes, this fresh homemade version tastes so much better. Honestly, I’d happily shell out $3 for a glass. Heck, maybe this lavender lemonade mocktail will put a dent in the college fund! 🤔💰Either way, your taste buds will thank you on a hot summer day!

What is Lavender Lemonade?
Well, let’s start with a classic lemonade recipe — a classic American beverage that, at it’s simplest, is made with lemon juice, cold water, and sugar.
In this fresh take on the beloved beverage, we infuse the simple syrup (the water and sugar part) with dried lavender flowers and a whisper of vanilla for warmth. The resulting zingy glass of lemony goodness has the brightness we know and love but with a mild hint of floral perfume.
What does it taste like?
You know how lavender smells, right? Well, this tasty little ditty tastes like you’re drinking a glass of lemonade in the middle of a field of lavender flowers. It’s got the familiar sweet-tart flavor profile of regular lemonade, but with a hint of the soothing scent of lavender. In short, it tastes like the first warm, sunny day of spring.
Why You’ll Love This Easy Lavender Lemonade Recipe
- Quick & Easy – 3 ingredients and about 10 minutes of active work are all that stand between you and a large pitcher of lavender lemonade.
- Fresh & Natural – We’re keeping it REAL with honest-to-goodness freshly squeezed lemon juice, good ol’ H2O, and homemade floral syrup. In other words, there are no hard-to-pronounce ingredients, artificial flavors, or added dyes (unless you want them). Using whole foods is the best way to enjoy lemonade!
- Easily Customizable – Prefer your lemonade more or less sweet? Want to add some sparkle? Need to make it diabetic-friendly? With my homemade lavender lemonade, you’re in the driver’s seat. Make it exactly the way you like!
Ingredients Needed
- Fresh Lemon Juice – Depending on the size of your lemons, you’ll need about 3-4 to make 4 servings. While I used regular lemons, you’re welcome to swap in Meyer lemons to double down on the floral flavor.
- Water – If possible, use filtered water for the cleanest taste. Don’t have access to a filter? You can either boil tap water for 15 minutes or leave a pot of cold tap water uncovered for 24-48 hours to get rid of any chlorine taste.
- Lavender Syrup – While you can certainly buy a bottle online, making your own with lavender sprigs or culinary use lavender is much cheaper. All you need is culinary lavender, some vanilla extract, sugar, and water, plus about 15 minutes. (If you’d like a purple lemonade drink, you’ll also need to grab purple food coloring, red and blue food coloring, or butterfly pea powder to tint it a lovely shade of light purple.)
Substitutions
- Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice – I generally don’t recommend using bottled lemon or lime juice. Nothing beats the taste of fresh! That said, feel free to make a puckery lavender limeade using fresh limes instead.
- Water – Add some effervescent pizzazz by replacing the water with seltzer or sparkling mineral water.
- Homemade Lavender Syrup – As much as I love the perfumed flavor of lavender, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. For an equally delightful, more fruit-forward approach, swap in my strawberry syrup — strawberry lemonade has never tasted so good! You’re also welcome to use any plain or flavored liquid sweetener of your choice.
How To Make Lavender Lemonade
This homemade lemonade comes together in just a few minutes. Here’s how:
Step 1: Firmly roll your lemons on a hard surface to loosen the juice.
Step 2: Cut the rolled lemons in half and juice them using a juicer.
Step 3: Stir together the lemon juice and water in a pitcher.
Step 4: Sweeten with lavender syrup made with edible lavender or culinary lavender buds. Stir until combined.
Step 5: Pour over ice and serve!
Optional Variations & Dietary Adjustments
- Lavender Lemonade Cocktail – If it’s 5 o’clock where you are, try adding a splash of vodka for an adults-only libation you’re sure to love. And garnish with a lemon wedge!
- Blueberry Lavender Lemonade – Add your completed lavender lemonade to a blender with a few handfuls of fresh or frozen blueberries. Blitz well, then pour through a fine mesh strainer for a berry-licious fun twist that adds sweetness and color.
- Lavender Mint Lemonade – After you’ve mixed up the pitcher, add a few large sprigs of mint then pop it in the fridge for a few hours. The minty flavor will infuse the beverage, adding an extra refreshing coolness. Don’t forget to garnish your glass with another sprig of mint for the full effect!
- Lavender Lemonade Tea – Mix a half-n-half solution of your favorite iced tea with this lavender-scened lemonade. It’s like an Arnold Palmer with a feminine twist.
- Sparkling Lavender Lemonade – If you prefer your sippers to be rife with tongue-tingling bubbles, swap in Topo Chico or lemon La Croix.
- Lavender Honey Lemonade – Sweeten your lemonade with lavender-infused honey syrup for a non-alcoholic drink that’ll set your mouth abuzz with flavor. 🐝
Serving Suggestions
- Go the extra mile. Adding lemon slices or a sprig of fresh lavender is a simple way to make your homemade treat feel extra special. If you’re hosting a shindig, add an extra layer of “wow” with floral ice cubes.
- Garden Party Gathering – Make a pitcher or two of this lemony lavender drink, some tea sandwiches, and lemon lavender sandwich cookies for an elegant outdoorsy affair.
- Light & Bright Brunch – Host a lazy weekend get-together with your nearest and dearest. Serve this puckery-sweet drink alongside your favorite coffee drinks (because what’s a brunch without at least two drink options?!?) fresh strawberry waffles and air-fried turkey bacon for a meal that’ll knock the socks off your guests.
Storage Directions
- Any leftovers of this homemade lemonade with lavender syrup can be refrigerated for up to 5 days.
- You can also freeze leftovers for up to 3 months.
- To serve, allow to defrost overnight in the fridge, then pour over ice and garnish.
Recipe Success Tips
- Get the most from your fruit! You can either use a vegetable peeler or a microplane for the lemon zest, which freezes well if you don’t have an immediate use for it. Then, after you’ve squeezed out every last drop of juicy goodness, use the spent lemon halves to refresh your garbage disposal, clean your wooden cutting boards, or to make no-waste lemon-infused spa water.
- Think ahead. Make the lavender simple syrup up to 2 weeks in advance, so whenever the craving strikes, you can mix up a batch of this lemon lavender-ade in mere minutes.
- Serve it extra cold. Room-temperature lemonade is fine — it’s not gonna hurt you. BUT, ice-cold? It’s a whole new ball game, and we’re winning. 😉
FAQs
Well, it has its pros and cons. It’s all-natural, gluten-free, vegan, and has a hefty dose of vitamin C, but it’s also got a decent amount of added sugar. I’d recommend sipping on this lavender lemonade as a sometimes treat.
Aside from tasting dreamy, lavender has been shown to have therapeutic properties, including helping to reduce anxiety. While I’m not sure that a glass of this sweet sipper is a potent enough dose to have any serious impact from a medical standpoint, I’d argue that taking a moment of much-needed me-time in the middle of your day is a great way to banish anxious feelings.
I can’t speak for all recipes, but The Oregon Dietician’s recipe for lavender lemonade is made with fresh lemon juice, water, and lavender syrup (which is made with sugar, water, lavender buds, and vanilla extract).
I’d imagine that as long as they have lavender drinks like this slurp-a-licious iced lavender oat milk latte, they’ll be able to make you a lavender lemonade. However, why spend all that money when you can make your own at home?
For refreshing, rehydrating, and revivifying your soul! It’s perfect for bridal showers, baby showers, or just a regular summer afternoon!
So long as you drink it in moderation, you should be fine! However, there haven’t been many studies on the effect of ingesting lavender while pregnant, so proceed with caution. That said, you’re getting a relatively small dose of lavender in each cup — much less than a mug of lavender tea.
Homemade Lavender Lemonade Nutrition
I’m about to spill the tea on this lavender lemonade’s nutritional profile. This recipe is actually surprisingly low-cal and guilt-free. We’re talking around 120 calories per glass, which is pretty darn good for a refreshing drink.
Plus, there’s zero fat and protein, so it’s all about those carbs – 31 grams to be exact. Most of that comes from the sugar in the lavender syrup, and since we don’t have any fiber to slow the absorption, it can lead to a bit of a sugar high. My recommendation is to either:
~Pair it with a handful of nuts, a protein bar, or a piece of fruit.
~Reduce the amount of syrup you add.
~Make a reduced-sugar or sugar-free lavender syrup using your favorite cup-for-cup sweetener.
