What does it taste like?
Fresh nectarine lemonade tastes like summer in a glass—bright, juicy, and just the right balance of sweet and tart. The zesty tang of fresh-squeezed lemon juice wakes up your palate, while the homemade nectarine syrup adds a lush, peachy sweetness and a hint of floral fragrance. It’s refreshing and vibrant, with a smooth, thirst-quenching finish.
Why You Will Love This Homemade Lemonade Recipe
- All-Natural – Most store-bought juices include some questionable ingredients like artificial colors, preservatives, or not-so-“natural” flavors. Luckily, this DIY drink is made with just lemons, nectarines, sugar, and water!
- Fast & Easy – Aside from slicing some nectarines for your homemade syrup and juicing a few lemons, this nectarine drink recipe is completely hands-off. No cooking, no fretting—just pour and stir.
- Bright & Refreshing – As an RDN, I’ll always encourage you to drink more water. But, I get it—water can get a little boring! Adding a bit of sweet, fruity fun to switch up your routine is a great way to keep things interesting while still quenching your thirst.

Ingredients Needed
- Fresh Lemons – “Fresh” is really the key here—bottled juice has extra lemon essential oil from being pressed with the rinds, which gives it a slightly bitter, muddied flavor.
- Water – As always, start with filtered water for the best-tasting results.
- Nectarine Syrup – While you’re welcome to use store-bought syrup for convenience, my homemade recipe is made by just macerating fresh nectarine slices with sugar and lemon juice!

Substitutions
- Fresh Lemons – Try swapping in fresh limes for a fun twist.
- Water – Prefer a bit of effervescence? Use sparkling mineral water, seltzer, or club soda for a bright, bubbly beverage.
- Nectarine Syrup – My homemade peach syrup is the closest approximation in terms of flavor, but you’re welcome to use any of my flavored syrup recipes that sound like they’d be good!
How To Make Nectarine Lemonade
Step 1: Add cool water to a tall pitcher.
Step 2: Roll the lemons on your work surface for 10-15 seconds to help extract all the juice you can before squeezing. Squeeze the lemon juice into the pitcher with the water.
Step 3: Add the nectarine syrup and stir. Give it a taste—adjust by adding more syrup for sweetness or more lemon for sourness.
Step 4: Serve over ice and enjoy!

Optional Variations & Dietary Adjustments
- Reduced-Sugar/Sugar-Free – Swap in your favorite sugar alternative if you’re making homemade nectarine syrup. Just note that this will only reduce the sugar, since nectarines do have naturally occurring sugars. You can also purchase sugar-free syrup if needed.
- Mix & Match – Nectarines play nicely with other flavors, so have fun creating your own hybrid lemonade. Not sure where to start? Replace some of the nectarine syrup with fresh mint syrup, blueberry syrup, or cherry syrup.
Recipe Tips
- Adjust sweetness to taste – If you prefer your lemonade more tart or less sweet, start with less syrup and add more to taste.
- Chill before serving – For the best flavor, refrigerate the lemonade for at least an hour before serving to let the flavors meld and fully chill.
- Add a citrus boost – A little extra lemon zest can brighten the whole batch if you like a more zippy, lemon-forward flavor.
- Make it ahead – The syrup can be made a few days in advance and stored in the fridge, so it’s easy to throw together a fresh pitcher whenever you like!

Serving Suggestions
Fresh nectarine lemonade is as versatile as it is refreshing. Whether you’re sipping solo or serving a crowd, here are some fun and delicious ways to enjoy it:
- Over ice with fresh garnishes – Serve it in a tall glass filled with ice, garnished with a slice of lemon, a wedge of nectarine, or a sprig of mint for a beautiful and refreshing presentation.
- Lemonade slushies – Freeze some of the lemonade into ice cube trays, then blend with the rest of the lemonade and a few frozen nectarine slices for a fun, fruity summer treat.
- Mocktail base – Use it as a mixer with muddled herbs (like basil or rosemary) and a splash of soda water for a sophisticated, alcohol-free sipper.
- Cocktail mixer – Add a shot of vodka, gin, or bourbon to turn it into a light and flavorful summer cocktail. It could also be used to make a fresh and fruity sangria!
- Picnic pitcher – Make a big batch of nectarine lemonade for barbecues, picnics, or summer parties—just keep it chilled and ready to pour!
Storage Directions
- Refrigeration – Leftover nectarine lemonade will keep for up to 5 days in the fridge.
- Freezing – For longer storage, freeze for up to 6 months and defrost as needed. Note: it makes for great flavored ice cubes and yummy popsicles!

Homemade Nectarine Lemonade Nutrition
Each serving of this fresh nectarine lemonade contains approximately 145 calories, with 0 grams of fat, 0 grams of protein, 1 mg of sodium, and 38 grams of carbohydrates—all coming from natural fruit sugars and added sugar in the homemade syrup.
While it’s a refreshing way to hydrate and enjoy seasonal fruit, the sugar content may be something to consider. To lighten it up, you can:
- Use less nectarine syrup and more water or lemon juice for a lower-sugar version.
- Cut the lemonade with unsweetened sparkling water for added fizz and dilution.
- Replace the sugar in the syrup with a natural sugar-free sweetener like stevia or monk fruit.
Lemon juice offers a boost of vitamin C, while nectarines provide small amounts of potassium and antioxidants, especially if you leave the skins on during syrup prep. So while it’s a sweet treat, this lemonade also brings a splash of nutrition to the table! Enjoy every sip.

FAQs
It sure is. In fact, my homemade nectarine syrup is primarily made with nectarine juice!
Honestly, I’m not sure there’s a fruit I’ve met that doesn’t pair well with lemons or lemonade. (Seriously—pineapple lemonade, raspberry lemonade, blackberry lemonade, blueberry lemonade…and the list goes on!) I guess the only things I’d steer clear of are super starchy fruits like bananas.
Actually, nectarines are not a hybrid fruit. They’re actually almost genetically identical to peaches, but have smooth rather than fuzzy skin.
