Maybe I’m aging myself here, but every time I take a sip of this homemade pineapple lemonade, that Katrina & The Waves song starts playing in my head. I mean, just look at that cheerful sunshine-y yellow hue! And the taste? It’s got just the right amount of pucker and freshness balanced by a hint of sugary sweetness. 🍍🍋🤌
I’ve been on a real kick with homemade lemonade recipes lately—this working mama is ready for summer and all her spoils. The lazy days by the pool, the much needed family vacation, and the official start of BBQ season are all so close, I can almost taste them. In the meantime, though, a summery sipper is enough to remind me of the fun to come.
If you’ve enjoyed my juicy raspberry lemonade, floral lavender lemonade, or southern peach lemonade, chances are this pineapple-flavored number is right up your alley. Now excuse me while I go whip up another pitcher to enjoy with my freshly baked Hawaiian banana bread. It’s time for me to pretend I’m on the beach. 🏖️

What does it taste like?
If you could distill the feeling of warm sun on your face and sand squishing beneath your toes as water gently laps over your feet with the tide, this pineapple lemonade would be it. It has the bright acidity of lemons, the juicy, tropical sweetness of pineapple, and gives you the cool refreshing ahhhh feeling with every sip. Next time you need a beach day but can’t get to a beach, this is just the thing to make!
Why You’ll Love This Pineapple Lemonade Recipe
- Quick & Easy – Just 5 ingredients and 5 minutes are all that stands between you and a glass of lemon pineapple glory.
- Tropical Twist – Don’t get me wrong—I love classic homemade lemonade. (Honestly, who doesn’t?!?) But I also love all things pineapple, so this fun, beachy variation is the perfect way to shake things up.
- One & Done – One batch makes enough for 4 drinks, and making multiple batches at once is just as easy as making a single. Whether you’re a meal prepper or a party planner, this pineapple lemonade punch is here to serve your needs.

Ingredients Needed
As promised, you don’t need much to stir up a little joy. Here’s what to grab:
- Fresh Lemon Juice – “Fresh” is the important thing to remember. The bottled stuff can’t hold a candle to it!
- Fresh Pineapple & Pineapple Juice – A double whammy of pineapple ensures each sip is packed to the brim with its golden goodness.
- Simple Syrup – As the name implies, this simple sweetener is made with just white sugar and water mixed in equal proportions.

Substitutions
Out of a key ingredient? Not to worry. Here are some easy swaps to try:
- Fresh Lemon Juice – For a less-tart alternative, use Meyer lemon juice. You can also swap in fresh lime juice for yummy pineapple limeade!
- Fresh Pineapple – Don’t want to deal with peeling a pineapple? (I don’t blame you, but a good pineapple corer might just change your mind.) Feel free to swap in frozen pineapple chunks instead. Just make sure to defrost them a bit first to make it easier on your blender.
- Pineapple Juice – You’re welcome to use other complementary juices like mango or orange if you like.
- Simple Syrup – I prefer to use liquid sweeteners when making chilled drinks as they’re easier to mix in than granulated sugar. For a more natural alternative, try agave nectar or honey syrup instead.
How To Make Pineapple Lemonade
Step 1: Blend. Place the pineapple juice and pineapple chunks in a blender. Blend until smooth.
Step 2: Strain the pineapple mixture using a mesh strainer to remove the pulp. You can discard the pulp.
Step 3: Mix the lemon juice with the strained pineapple mixture.
Step 4: Pour the lemon-pineapple juice mixture into a pitcher.
Step 5: Add the water and simple syrup. Mix to combine.
Step 6: Serve over ice. Garnish with a few pineapple leaves or a wedge of fresh pineapple if desired. Enjoy!

Optional Variations & Dietary Adjustments
- Refined Sugar-Free – Pineapple and pineapple juice have naturally occurring sugars, but you can swap out the simple syrup for a sugar-free alternative. Just make the syrup with the cup-for-cup alternative of your choice! To reduce the calorie and sugar count further, use diet pineapple juice.
- Add More Fruit – The more I get into making lemonade at home, the more I realize that pretty much every fruit plays nicely with lemons. So, if you want to shake things up, try making a pineapple passionfruit lemonade or pineapple mango lemonade by using passion fruit or mango juice in place of pineapple juice. You can also make strawberry pineapple lemonade by swapping out the simple syrup for strawberry syrup.
- Make it Minty – If you love my mint lemonade but also love pineapple, get the best of all worlds by swapping in fresh mint syrup for the simple syrup. If you’re loving the herbal idea but don’t have mint, basil syrup or ginger syrup could be fun too!
Recipe Tips
- Use fresh lemon juice for the best flavor. The bottled kind tends to taste more bitter on account of extra essential oils that come from squeezing the rinds.
- A pineapple corer is a summer must-have! It makes peeling and slicing a whole pineapple way less messy and way less intimidating.
- Sweeten to taste! Some pineapples are sweeter than others, so add a bit, taste, and evaluate so you don’t overdo it on the sugar.
- To pick a good pineapple, look for ones that feel heavy for their size (that means they’re juicy), have bright green leaves, and have a bit of give when you gently squeeze them (but no big squishy patches). Next, pluck one of the leaves from the crown. If it releases easily, it’s nice and ripe. Finally, give the bottom end a whiff—it should smell like pineapple! As with most fruit, if it doesn’t smell like much, it probably won’t taste like much either.

Serving Suggestions
You don’t need to host a luau to enjoy a glass of this pineapple lemonade (but you definitely can). If you’re looking for creative ways to make a splash with your presentation, consider:
- Garnishing your glasses to make your drinks look professionally made. I like to use a couple of the fresh, spiky pineapple leaves and a wedge of fresh pineapple, but you do you!
- Add sparkle by swapping out the water for effervescent seltzer, club soda, or sparkling mineral water. You can also take that literally and swirl in some luster dust for a shiny, metallic look. Magic!
- Bring happy hour home by spiking your pineapple lemonade with a tipple of rum (white, coconut, or spiced would all be yummy) or vodka.
- Perfect pairings include summery favorites like grilled bang bang chicken skewers, grilled chicken green goddess salad, or stuffed zucchini boats.
Storage Instructions
- Refrigeration – Pineapple lemonade should keep well in a covered container in the fridge for 3-5 days. Note that if you want to serve it sparkling, wait to add the seltzer till right before serving.
- Freezing – For longer storage, leftover pineapple lemonade can be frozen for up to 3 months. Make sure to leave at least ½-inch of headspace in the container for it to expand. You can also freeze it in ice cubes to add fun flavor to your iced tea, or turn it into popsicles for a frosty treat.

Homemade Pineapple Lemonade Nutrition
Each glass of this fresh tropical citrus-ade has just under 140 calories, so it is a bit of a treat. All of the calories come from sugar-based carbs—33 to be exact. If you’d like to cut back on the caloric impact (and also cut back on the carbs), use the instructions to make it reduced sugar-free under the “optional variations” section above.
As a clear, juice-based drink, there’s no fat or protein to speak of, and just 6 milligrams of sodium (which is barely worth mentioning). But, while this pineapple-flavored lemonade is admittedly sugary, remember that there are some redeeming characteristics. It’s made with fruit, after all!
Both lemon and pineapple are excellent sources of vitamin C, which is important for immune function and skin health. They’re also both considered digestive aids—the bromelain in pineapple helps break down proteins, while lemon spurs the production of digestive enzymes.
Finally, lemons are also a great source of electrolytes like potassium, calcium, and magnesium, helping you stay nice and hydrated. So, while you shouldn’t guzzle down glass after glass of pineapple lemonade, you also shouldn’t feel guilty for enjoying one with your meal. Cheers to summer!!

FAQs
Yes! Generally speaking, lemon is a friend of all fruits—the acidity just adds a bit of brightness. That’s why you’ll often see lemon juice added to fruity desserts like air fryer apple crisps or cranberry custard pies.
Make my pineapple lemonade, of course! 😉
I sure think so! (And, for the record, so do my husband and both my kiddos.)
