I may be a certified nutritionist, but I also have a serious sweet tooth. That’s why I love coming up with better-for-you treats like this high protein strawberry fluff fruit dip. It’s rich and creamy with a flavor akin to strawberry ice cream, but a texture that’s like a cloud. It’s perfect for dipping fruit and pretzels into, though I’ll also happily eat it with a spoon like strawberry mousse.

If you enjoyed my protein pumpkin fluff and chocolate fruit dip recipes, I have a feeling this berry-flavored wonder will be right up your alley. It’s light and bright-tasting, but with a serious bit of staying power thanks to a hefty dose of protein. If you’re looking to increase your protein intake, this strawberry fluff is a deliciously painless way to do it!

Best of all, this easy dessert is a snap to make. Just blend up strawberries with cottage cheese and few extra flavor boosters, whip up some airy whipped cream, then fold the two together. All in, you’re looking at just 10 minutes of effort for a truly craveworthy treat!

    What does it taste like?

This strawberry fluff is silky-smooth, creamy-dreamy, and impossibly light on the tongue. The first spoonful delivers a burst of bright, sun-ripened strawberry sweetness, perfectly balanced by the subtle tang of cottage cheese that adds a cheesecake-like depth without any heaviness.

The maple syrup weaves through each bite with its warm, caramel undertones, softening the edges and a whisper of vanilla rounds everything out, adding bakery-fresh warmth that transforms this from healthy snack into legitimate dessert territory. The strawberry protein powder amplifies that berry-forward flavor.

The texture is where magic happens—whipped to airy perfection, it melts on your tongue like the fluffiest strawberry mousse you’ve ever tasted. It’s reminiscent of strawberry cheesecake filling, strawberry ice cream, and berry-studded whipped cream all at once—but lighter, fresher, and with that satisfying protein-packed richness that keeps you full and energized.

Why You’ll Love This Healthy Strawberry Dessert Recipe

    • Quick & Easy – No need to turn on the oven or slave away in the kitchen—this high protein strawberry mousse comes together in just 10 minutes or less.
    • Sweet & Sensible – You get strawberry cheesecake flavor, but with 15 grams of protein and 2 grams of fiber per serving!
    • 6 Simple Ingredients – A short list of all-natural, easy-to-pronounce ingredients makes this dessert feel extra doable.

    Ingredients Needed

    • Cottage Cheese – This provides a creamy, high-protein base for our strawberry fluff. Feel free to use either large or small curd—since we’re blending it until smooth, it doesn’t matter! I recommend using full-fat cottage cheese for the best mouthfeel and flavor.
    • Fresh Strawberries – Real strawberries give the fluff a bright berry flavor and cheerful pink hue.
    • Pure Maple Syrup – My favorite liquid sweetener adds warmth and balances out the tangy flavor of cottage cheese.
    • Strawberry Protein Powder – For an added boost of protein and sweet strawberry flavor.
    • Vanilla Extract – For warmth and aromatic sweetness that makes this mousse taste like dessert.
    • Heavy Cream – For added richness and a light, fluffy consistency.

    Substitutions

    • Cottage Cheese – Ricotta has a similar mild flavor and consistency, but with a bit less protein and more fat than cottage cheese. Greek yogurt has a similar nutritional profile, but with a tangier flavor. You can also use soft silken tofu for a dairy-free alternative.
    • Fresh Strawberries – Defrosted frozen strawberries work as well. You can also swap in another variety of berries.
    • Pure Maple Syrup – Feel free to swap in another sweetener like honey or agave nectar. Note that you may need to add more or less depending on the sweetener you use since they all have differing levels of sweetness.
    • Strawberry Protein Powder – Vanilla protein powder is a good substitute.
    • Vanilla Extract – You’re welcome to use an equal amount of vanilla paste or powder. Note that paste will add pretty black flecks throughout the fluff.
    • Heavy Cream – You can use slightly lighter whipping cream if needed.

How To Make High Protein Strawberry Fluff

Step 1: Blend. In a high-speed blender, blend the cottage cheese, strawberries, maple syrup, protein powder, and vanilla extract until smooth. Set aside to thicken.

Step 2: Whip. Using a stand mixer or handheld electric mixer, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.

Step 3: Fold the strawberry mixture and whipped cream together until smooth and creamy. Serve as a dip or mousse in ½ cup portions, or transfer to the fridge until ready to serve.

    Optional Variations & Dietary Adjustments

    • Sugar-Free – Swap out the maple syrup for your preferred sugar-free sweetener (e.g. monk fruit) and double-check that your protein powder is also sugar-free.
    • Dairy-Free – Use plant-based cottage cheese and vegan whipping cream or coconut cream for a vegan-friendly twist.
    • Mixed Fruit – Don’t feel limited to strawberries! Feel free to mix and match berries to your heart’s content. Other fruits that pair well with strawberry (e.g. pineapple or kiwi) can also be used!

    Serving Suggestions

This versatile strawberry fluff shines in countless ways throughout your day. Serve strawberry mousse cups as a satisfying high-protein snack. It also works beautifully as a dip for fresh fruit, graham crackers, or vanilla wafers.

Try sweetening your breakfast by dolloping it over warm oatmeal or strawberry overnight oats, strawberry waffles, or strawberry rhubarb protein muffins. It also makes an exceptional filling for crepes or stuffed French toast. For a fun twist, layer it in parfait glasses with granola and fresh berries for an Instagram-worthy breakfast or brunch that tastes as good as it looks.

Or, transform the fluff into a show-stopping dessert by using it as a filling for strawberry mousse pie, strawberry layer cakes, or cream puffs. Pipe it into phyllo cups or mini tart shells for elegant bite-sized treats, or freeze it in popsicle molds for protein-packed frozen treats. It’s also phenomenal as a topping for angel food cake, strawberry shortcakes, or red velvet brownies!

    Recipe Success Tips

    • Choose the Right Cottage Cheese – For the smoothest, creamiest results, blend your cottage cheese for at least 60-90 seconds until completely silky with no lumps remaining. Full-fat cottage cheese creates the richest flavor and best texture, but 2% works well if you’re watching calories. Brands matter—opt for higher-quality cottage cheese with a short, clean ingredient list for the best taste.
    • Adjust Sweetness to Your Preference – Start with the recommended amount of maple syrup and taste before adding more. Different protein powder brands vary in sweetness, so you may need to adjust accordingly. If you prefer a less sweet version, reduce the maple syrup by half, or swap it for honey or agave nectar for a different flavor profile.
    • Whip the Cream Properly – For maximum fluffiness, make sure your heavy cream is cold and whip it to stiff peaks before folding it into the cottage cheese mixture. Under-whipped cream won’t give you that cloud-like texture, while over-whipped cream can become grainy. Stop when the cream holds firm peaks that stand straight up.
    • Fold Gently – The whipped cream is what gives our strawberry cheesecake mousse its light and airy texture. Make sure to take care not to deflate it as you mix the two together!
    • Use Fresh, Ripe Strawberries – The quality of your strawberries makes a huge difference. Choose berries that are deep red, fragrant, and at peak ripeness for the most vibrant flavor and color. If fresh strawberries aren’t in season, frozen strawberries work beautifully—just thaw and drain excess liquid first.
    • Chill Before Serving – While you can enjoy this fluff immediately, letting it chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes allows the flavors to meld and the texture to firm up slightly, making it even more luxurious and cheesecake-y.

    Storage Directions

    • Refrigeration: Store your strawberry fluff in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. The texture stays beautifully fluffy for the first two days, though it may deflate slightly over time as the whipped cream settles—simply give it a gentle stir before serving to revive some of that airiness. Make sure to keep it well-sealed to prevent it from absorbing other flavors from your fridge.
    • Freezing: For longer storage, strawberry protein fluff freezes surprisingly well. Portion it into individual servings in freezer-safe containers or silicone muffin cups, then freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before enjoying, or let frozen portions sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes for a semi-frozen, ice cream-like consistency that’s absolutely divine on hot days. Note that the texture will be slightly denser after freezing, but the flavor remains delicious.

    High Protein Strawberry Mousse Nutrition

Each serving of this strawberry fluff delivers a well-balanced 343 calories, making it a satisfying dessert or substantial snack that won’t completely derail your daily goals. With 15 grams of protein per serving, it provides a significant boost that helps keep you full and supports muscle recovery.

The 24 grams of carbohydrates come primarily from the fresh strawberries and a touch of maple syrup, while 2 grams of fiber from the fruit aids digestion and adds nutritional value. At 20 grams of total fat per serving, this is admittedly an indulgent treat. However, these are whole food sources that provide satiety and help your body absorb fat-soluble vitamins.

The sodium content sits at a reasonable 177 mg, which is relatively low compared to many processed desserts. While strawberry fluff is higher in fat than some lighter options, the combination of quality protein, real fruit, and dairy makes it a more nutritionally complete choice than typical sweet treats. Enjoy every berry-sweet bite!

    FAQs

What are common strawberry fluff mistakes?

The most common mistake is under-blending the cottage cheese, which leaves you with a grainy, lumpy texture instead of the silky-smooth base you want. Another frequent error is not whipping the cream to stiff enough peaks, which results in a deflated, soupy consistency. Using low-quality or watery cottage cheese can also throw off the texture and create excess liquid. Many people over-sweeten by not accounting for the sweetness already present in their protein powder, or they skip chilling the fluff before serving, missing out on the best texture and flavor development.

Is protein strawberry mousse good for you?

This protein strawberry mousse is a nutritious choice compared to traditional desserts, but it’s important to keep perspective. While it delivers a solid boost of protein from cottage cheese and protein powder, plus vitamins and antioxidants from fresh strawberries and beneficial nutrients from dairy, it’s still relatively high in fat due to the heavy cream and full-fat cottage cheese. That said, it’s significantly better for you than most sweet treats—the protein helps keep you satisfied longer, stabilizes blood sugar, and supports muscle maintenance, while the fresh fruit adds fiber and nutrients you won’t find in typical cakes or ice creams.

Can I make mousse with protein powder?

Absolutely! Protein powder works beautifully in this strawberry mousse and actually enhances both the texture and nutritional profile. When blended with cottage cheese and whipped cream, protein powder adds body and structure while boosting the protein content significantly. The key is choosing a high-quality protein powder with good flavor, as it becomes a prominent taste in the final product.
