With two young kids and a personal goal to eat veggies at every meal, this Greek yogurt ranch dressing has become a must in our house. Like many parents, I rely on ranch to keep my world turning—it somehow makes everything from veggies to pizza more appealing for my kids.

Since ranch makes such a frequent appearance, I figured it was time to create a Greek yogurt version. Bottled dressing, with its mystery ingredients and heavy fat-and-sodium load, is fine in moderation but not my first choice for everyday use. My goal was simple: make a healthier dip I could feel good about serving—and one my kids would actually enjoy.

The result is a lighter, high-protein ranch dressing and dip that works for all ages. It has the same creamy, tangy, herb-packed flavor we love, but it comes together quickly for last-minute snacks and meals. It’s already a new family favorite—and one I’ll be keeping stocked in the fridge for the foreseeable future.

    What Does it Taste Like?

This ranch dressing with Greek yogurt tastes just like buttermilk-style ranch: it’s creamy, drippy, and tangy with herbal and aromatic undertones, so good you’ll want to drizzle it on everything you eat. The yogurt keeps it fresh and real—without the processed flavors of bottled versions—and the apple cider vinegar adds a light, fruity tang, complementing the savory herbs, onion, and garlic. Best of all, with no mayonnaise, sour cream, or buttermilk, it’s lighter and more refreshing than classic varieties. No heavy mouthfeel or cloying aftertaste, just creamy, tangy, and savory ranch flavor!

Why You Will Love This Greek Yogurt Salad Dressing Recipe

    • Quick, Simple, and FAST – Just measure the ingredients and blend! This dressing is ready in a fraction of the time it would take to buy premade from the store.
    • Wholesome and Healthy – Made with Greek yogurt, apple cider vinegar, and dried spices (really, that’s it!), each serving of this no-mayo ranch dressing packs 6 grams of protein.
    • No Mystery Ingredients – Ever read the ingredient label on a bottle of store-bought ranch? It can be pretty scary. 😬 Instead of a chemistry experiment, this version is made with only real, good-for-you ingredients.
    • Tangy, Herby, and Delish – Everything you love about classic ranch, but with a fresh, healthy twist!

    Ingredients

    • Plain Greek Yogurt – For the richest, creamiest yogurt salad dressing, use whole or 2% Greek yogurt. Non-fat works in a pinch or to suit diet goals, but since this recipe has no mayonnaise, sour cream, or buttermilk, a bit of fat in the yogurt gives the best flavor and texture.
    • Apple Cider Vinegar – Provides that signature Ranch tang! Both filtered and raw (unfiltered) vinegar work well.
    • Dried Dill – A classic Ranch dressing ingredient, dill is key in giving the yogurt its herby flavor. You will need 1 1/2 teaspoons.
    • Garlic Powder – Contributes a light, sweet nuttiness.
    • Onion Powder – Brings subtle pungent, zesty undertones.
    • Dried Chives – Enhances the herbal notes without being too sharp or pungent.
    • Dried Parsley – Lends a mild earthiness to the Greek yogurt dressing recipe.
    • Salt and Pepper – Salt ties all the flavors together and black pepper adds a touch of heat!
All the ingredients needed to make healthy, herby Greek yogurt ranch dressing on the counter.

    Substitutions

    • Sour Cream – Don’t have Greek yogurt, or enough on hand? Swap all or part with sour cream, a classic ingredient in homemade ranch dressing.
    • White Vinegar – Distilled white vinegar adds a clean, tangy flavor and is a substitute for apple cider vinegar.
    • Fresh Herbs – Use 1 1/2 tablespoons of fresh chopped dill and 1 tablespoon each of parsley and chives instead of their dried counterparts. Add 1/4 cup of buttermilk to keep the dressing from getting too thick.

How to Make Greek Yogurt Ranch Salad Dressing

You won’t believe how easy it is to make this healthy yogurt dressing! It’s quick and painless—so simple you could almost do it with your eyes closed.

Step 1: Add all the ingredients to the bowl of a food processor.

Step 2: Blend until smooth and creamy.

That’s it! Proof that a healthier, homemade dressing can be almost as easy as the bottled kind!

    Recipe Tips

    • Use full-fat yogurt. The yogurt is the only source of fat in this yogurt salad dressing recipe, giving it flavor, richness, and creaminess. For the most satisfying, authentic taste, choose whole milk or 2% plain Greek yogurt.
    • Check your dried herbs’ expiration dates. Dried herbs lose potency over time, so always use ones well within their expiration date for the best flavor.
    • Blending alternatives. Don’t have a food processor? No problem! A stand blender or immersion blender works, too. If using a stand blender, add a splash of milk or buttermilk to loosen the mixture and help it blend smoothly.
    • Season to taste. Want it more herbaceous? Add a few extra shakes of dill, chives, or parsley. Prefer it tangier? Add an extra splash of vinegar. For a fuller flavor, sprinkle in an extra pinch of salt or two.

    Serving Suggestions

Enjoy this ranch yogurt dressing anywhere you’d use the classic—I love it drizzled over salads, spooned onto grain bowls, or slathered on baked potatoes. It also makes the best dip for crunchy veggies, wings, or even pizza (yes, pizza!). Basically, if classic ranch makes it better, this Greek yogurt version will too.

    Recipe Variations

Add your own flair to this versatile and tasty dressing and dip with any of these variations:

    • Parmesan – Stir in 1/3 cup of grated parmesan cheese before serving for a cheesy, savory boost.
    • Avocado – Swap half the Greek yogurt with 1/2 cup ripe avocado for a nutty, buttery twist.
    • Spicy – Turn up the heat by blending in up to 1 tablespoon of your favorite hot sauce and/or a large pinch of cayenne pepper.
    • Taco – Blend in 1 ½ tablespoons of taco seasoning for a flavorful, healthier take on taco salad dressing.
    • Dairy-Free – Swap coconut, almond, or soy yogurt for traditional yogurt for a vegan and lactose-free variation.

    Storage Directions

This healthy Greek yogurt salad dressing keeps covered in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. I do not recommend freezing it—its consistency and texture tend to break down upon defrosting, making it less creamy and sometimes grainy or watery.

    Nutritional Info

When it comes to salad dressings, this Greek yogurt ranch is a standout—offering far more protein and significantly fewer calories than traditional ranch.

Each ¼ cup serving has just 65 calories, with 6 grams of protein, 3 grams of fat, and only 4 grams of carbohydrates. By contrast, traditional ranch dressing can pack up to 140 calories in just 2 tablespoons—making it nearly four times as calorie-dense as this Greek yogurt version.

As the name suggests, Greek yogurt is the star here. It delivers 6 grams of protein per serving, along with calcium and gut-healthy probiotics, while keeping fat modest at just 3 grams. Traditional ranch, on the other hand, is low in protein and typically contains 14–16 grams of fat per serving. The yogurt provides the creaminess you want, without the excess saturated fat.

If you’d like to make this recipe even healthier, you can reduce the sodium. While 318 mg per serving is relatively low, it can add up if you’re watching your intake. Simply cut back a bit on the added salt to lighten it further.

    FAQs

Can I freeze yogurt ranch dressing?

Unfortunately, this dressing does not freeze well. It tends to separate upon defrosting, causing it to break down, split, or become watery.

Can I make this without a blender or food processor?

Absolutely! If you don’t have a blender or food processor, use an immersion blender in a tall, wide cup. You can also whisk it vigorously by hand—it may just take a little extra effort to get it smooth and creamy.

How can I thin or thicken this dressing?

To thin the dressing, blend or whisk in milk or buttermilk, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your desired consistency. To make it thicker, simply add more Greek yogurt.
