Add a strawberry banana kiwi smoothie to your day! It’s easy, healthy, & made with almond milk, Greek yogurt, & high quality protein powder!
What first inspired this recipe was my father-in-law, who somehow manages to grow kiwi fruit in his back yard every year, despite the non-tropical weather here in Oregon. Even though kiwi is thought of as a tropical fruit, somehow he manages to produce A TON of kiwi every year.
In my opinion, kiwis are an underrated fruit. They have so many health benefits, and taste amazing just on their own, or in jams, lemonades, and yes, even smoothies.
This strawberry banana kiwi smoothie is healthy, protein packed, and full of flavor!

Are kiwi smoothies good for weight loss?
Not all smoothies can help with weight loss, and many of them are marketed as “skinny”, which typically means they are low in calories. Skinny smoothies often have a ton of fruit, hardly any protein or fiber, and keep the fat to a minimum. These typically won’t keep you full, and often will leave you craving more food 1-2 hours later.
Because this recipe is so full of protein and fiber, it can help to keep you full until your next meal. By staying full, and avoiding snacking between meals, smoothies can help with weight loss.
Is kiwi a superfood?
Absolutely yes! Kiwi has many health benefits, and is loaded with vitamin C, fiber, and potassium, making it a great superfood to eat daily.
Kiwi is actually more concentrated in vitamin C than oranges are. This helps to boost immunity and antioxidant levels in your body.
They are also very high in fiber, which helps with digestion, and has been shown to lower cholesterol levels, too!
The high potassium content of kiwi fruit is known to promote healthy blood pressure levels and improve cardiovascular health as well.
Can you put kiwi skin in a smoothie?
You can definitely put kiwi skin in a smoothie, in small amounts of course. Kiwi skin is very high in fiber, but does not taste great on it’s own. Blending it in your smoothie helps you to get all the nutritional benefits of the skin without having to deal with the texture.
This strawberry banana kiwi smoothie recipe does not call for skin, simply because it makes the flavor a little too tart for my taste. Here’s how to properly remove the kiwi skin for your smoothie.
How do you cut a kiwi?
Start by slicing off both ends of the kiwi, so you remove the tough white parts and the little stem areas. Slide a spoon into the fruit, seperating the fruit from the skin. Gently work your way around the fruit until the green kiwi fruit is totally seperated from the skin.
Now you can slice it up any way you want, or just pop it into the blender for your smoothie!
How do you tell if a kiwi is ripe?
Push on the kiwi lightly with your thumb or finger. If it feels tender and soft, it’s ready to eat! If it feels really firm, it’s not ready yet.
How do you store kiwi?
The best way to store kiwi is to leave it in a room temperature area while it ripens, like your pantry or the kitchen counter. If you need to ripen your kiwi fruit quickly, store it in a paper bag to trap the gases it puts off. Or, set it next to other fruits that are putting off those same gases, such as bananas or apples.
Kiwi continues to ripen after it’s harvested, and can easily go from ripe to mushy in a matter of days. If your kiwi is ripe and you’re not ready to use it quite yet, put it in the fridge for 1-2 days, to slow the ripening process down.
What fruit goes well with kiwi?
Lots of different fruits go great with kiwi:

- Banana
- Pineapple
- Grapefruit
- Papaya
- Berries
- Apples
- Cherries

- Frozen pumpkin puree
- Frozen coconut milk

Smoothies, especially this kiwi smoothie, is perfect for kids because it contains tons of vitamin C, protein, and healthy carbohydrates.
It’s also pretty filling because of all the fiber, so it helps to fuel physical activity and promotes a healthy diet! Kids, including my toddler, absolutely love smoothies, and definitely benefit from a kiwi smoothie’s nutritional boost!
