What are bliss balls?

Bliss balls are essentially a pureed mixture of fruit, nuts, and other flavors. Most bliss balls, like these chocolate bliss balls, are sweet, nutritious, and like their name suggests, simply blissful in flavor. They’re pretty high in fiber usually, and typically healthy as well.

What do chocolate hazelnut balls taste like?

These chocolate hazelnut balls are made from only 5 simple ingredients, so they taste very natural and get a lot of flavor from the chocolate and hazelnuts. They have a mild vanilla flavor as well and have a slightly nutty texture, which I know you’ll love.

    Ingredients

The ingredients needed to make chocolate hazelnut bliss balls.

Raw hazelnuts – These are the main dry ingredient in your chocolate hazelnut balls, and give the bliss balls texture and a slightly nutty flavor.

Unsweetened cocoa powder – Adding cocoa powder is a way to add chocolate flavor without adding more sugar.

Pure maple syrup – The maple syrup is the main liquid ingredient and helps to give these chocolate bliss balls a really nice texture, and flavor, too! Make sure to use 100% pure maple syrup to avoid any processed additives or preservatives.

Vanilla extract – This adds a little balance to the flavors in these bliss balls, and gives them a richer flavor.

Dark chocolate – Dark chocolate gives these chocolate hazelnut balls a creamier, more candy-like chocolate flavor.

    Substitutions

Raw hazelnuts – You can substitute other nuts like almonds, peanuts, cashews, or walnuts in these chocolate bliss balls, but the flavor may turn out a little different.

Pure maple syrup – Any liquid sweetener like honey or agave will work in this recipe but will likely alter the taste slightly. Maple syrup has such a mild flavor, you can’t taste it at all in this recipe.

Vanilla extract – This isn’t a completely necessary ingredient, so if you don’t have vanilla extract you can skip it altogether. You can also add other extracts in its place like peppermint or orange, but these extracts tend to be stronger, so start with 1/4 of a teaspoon and taste the bliss ball batter before adding more.

Dark chocolate – Dark chocolate chunks, chips, or pieces of dark chocolate all work great in this recipe. Make sure to use vegan chocolate if you want to keep these chocolate energy balls 100% plant-based. Try to use a natural chocolate product if possible.

    Instructions

    • Chocolate hazelnut energy balls on a sheet pan.
    • Ground hazelnuts being sprinkled over the chocolate bliss balls.
    1. Add ¼ cup raw hazelnuts to your food processor, and pulse until minced well. Set aside in a small bowl.
    2. Add remaining hazelnuts, dark chocolate chips/chunks, cocoa powder, vanilla, and maple syrup to your food processor.
    3. Pulse until everything is well combined and the hazelnuts are finely minced.
    4. Roll into about 15 one-inch balls, and set on a lined sheet pan or plate.
    5. Sprinkle or roll them in your minced hazelnuts, then cover and refrigerate for 2-3 hours. Serve!

    Storage

These can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 7 days, or frozen for up to 3 months. Make sure to thaw them out in the fridge before you eat them though, or they’ll be rock hard.

    Tips & FAQ

What other toppings can I use for these chocolate hazelnut balls?
