Let me introduce you to your new favorite dipping sauce, bang bang sauce. If you like spicy sauce, this is for you. If you like sweet sauce, this is for you. If you’re a creamy sauce fan, then this is for you.

I posted my super popular coconut chicken tender recipe with a side of bang bang sauce last year, but because it’s so darn good, I thought this homemade version of bang bang sauce deserved it’s own feature!

    What is bang bang sauce?

Bang bang sauce is a famous sweet and spicy sauce used on the Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer at Bonefish Grill. Good thing for us, we can make the copycat recipe at home!

What does bang bang sauce taste like?

Bang bang sauce is creamy, spicy, and sweet, with hints of sriracha and sweet chili sauce. Best of all, it’s an easy sauce to make quickly! It’s seriously addicting and after you try it, you’ll be putting the leftover sauce on everything.

What is bang bang sauce made of?

The ingredients needed to make bang bang sauce.

Mayonnaise – I like to use olive oil mayo to keep this sauce as healthy as possible. After all, mayo isn’t the healthiest but if you choose one that is made with a healthier oil, it helps keep it more heart-healthy.

Sweet Thai chili sauce – This sauce adds a lot of sweetness and a little bit of spice to the bang bang shrimp sauce. It also adds a ton of flavor, and is the main flavor component (and a key ingredient) in this recipe.

Sriracha – To give this popular sauce a spicy kick, I added Sriracha sauce for a little extra heat. It’s not too spicy with just a tablespoon added to the bang bang sauce, but adds just enough kick to make things delicious.

    Substitutions

Mayo – For the vegan version, use vegan mayo in place of the regular mayo. To make a healthier version of this copycat sauce, use 1/4 cup of plain, full-fat Greek yogurt mixed with 1/4 cup mayo and the remaining ingredients.

Thai sweet chili sauce – You can use garlic chili sauce in place of the sweet chili sauce to reduce the sugar in this recipe. However, doing so will eliminate the sweetness of this sauce, and you may also want to taste it before adding the sriracha, it may be a bit spicy!

Sriracha – Feel free to use your favorite hot sauce instead, keeping in mind that using a different hot sauce may alter the flavor and spice level in your dipping sauce.

How to Make Bang Bang Sauce

    1. In a small mixing bowl, mix together the three simple ingredients until well combined.
    2. Store in the fridge for up to 5 days in an airtight container.

    Tips & FAQ

What is bang bang sauce used for?

You can use the sauce for dipping coconut shrimp, chicken tenders or nuggets, drizzling over vegetables, as a power bowl or grain bowl sauce, or even for dipping or drizzling over kabobs!

How long does bang bang sauce last in the fridge?

After you make it, store it in the fridge for up to 5 days in an airtight container. I like to store mine in a glass bottle with a lid so I can pour it out easily.

    Nutritional Info

This bang bang sauce recipe is fairly low in protein and fiber. It’s a delicious sauce but a dipping sauce nonetheless. But the good news is, it’s fairly low in carbohydrates and is still sweet!

If you want to cut the calories and fat down a little bit, you can swap out 1/4 cup of the mayo for full-fat plain Greek yogurt. But don’t do any more than that, or the sauce will lose some flavor and it’s creamy texture.
